Here are a few simple questions you can ask yourself to help you
find the right cleaner for your application:
1.Will the cleaner be used on LIVE circuits?
2.Do I need a NON FLAMMABLE cleaner?
3.Do I need a PLASTIC SAFE cleaner?
4.Do I want liquid or aerosol?
Of course there are many other features that differentiate amongst
similar cleaners such as evaporation rate, toxicity, cost, etc.; but if you
keep the above questions in mind when selecting a cleaner for your
application, your chances of ruining a board just reduced by 90%.
A good rule of to follow is, “if you are cleaning the component side of
a board, go with a plastic safe cleaner”.
This is a very common question that gets asked regularly—I don’t
blame you one bit! With so many cleaners out there in the market,
no wonder it is such a task in choosing the right cleaner.
Using the wrong cleaner can be very costly. For example, if an
aggressive cleaner is used on a circuit that has sensitive plastics, it
could ruin the entire board. This is extra costly when doing a
prototype board. You would literally have to start from scratch.
