POWER SUPPLY
The evaluation fixture operates from a single dc supply in
the range of 12V to 30V. The supply being used should be
capable of delivering 1 amp.
BOARD LAYOUT AND CONNECTIONS
Refer to Figure 1, PCB Layout and Figure 2, Circuit Diagram
for the connections to the evaluation fixture. The 4-part
connector, Con 1, is for the power supply and current/voltage
out. The connector designations are marked in Figure 1, PCB
Layout. The 5-part connector, Con 2, is for pellistor connec-
tions. The numbers refer to the XTR501 pins as indicated in
Figure 2. The circuit diagram also shows the manner in which
the pellistor can be connected. This is for a 5-wire connection.
For a normal 3-wire connection, connect terminal 15 to
terminal 16, and connect terminal 17 to terminal 11.
THEORY OF OPERATION
The XTR501 demo board should be used in conjunction
with the XTR501 product data sheet and is designed to
provide an example of a typical application in which the
XTR501 could be used. The demo board also fits into one of
the standard industrial enclosures.
The evaluation fixture is set up for an LEL of Methane, and
the assumption that a VQ21 gas sensor, or equivalent, is
being used. Reference to the accompanying circuit diagram
of this document details the circuit values for this application.
The bridge voltage, recommended by the manufacturer for
the gas sensor, is set by R

. When the gas sensor is
connected as shown in the circuit diagram, it forms one side

1V to 5V corresponding to 4 to 20mA, by SW1. This can be
read on the terminal designated V

output is filtered at a nominal 1kHz.
When the sensor is exposed to 2.5% Methane, i. e., midscale,
the output should read 12mA, or 2.5V depending on the
switch position. R
