FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
The L4937Nis based on the SGS-THOMSON Mi-
croelectronicsmodularvoltageregulatorapproach.
Several out-standing features and auxiliary func-
tionsareprovidedto meettherequirementsof sup-
plyingthemicroprocessorsystemsusedinautomo-
tiveapplications.
Furthermorethedeviceis suitablealsoin otherap-
plicationsrequiring twostabilizedvoltages.
The modular approach allows other features and
functionsto be realizedeasily whenrequired.
STANDBYREGULATOR
The standby regulator uses an Isolated Collector
Vertical PNP transistor as the regulating element.
This structure allows a verylow dropout voltage at
currents up to 50mA. The dropout operationof the
standby regulator is maintained down to 2V input
supply voltage.The output voltage is regulatedup
tothetransientinputsupplyvoltageof40V.Thisfea-
ture avoids functionalinterruptions which could be
generatedby overvoltagepulses.
The typical curve of the standbyoutput voltage as
afunctionof theinputsupplyvoltageis shownin fig.

The current consumption of the device (quiescent
current) is less than 250
μ
A when output 2 is dis-
abled(standbymode).The dropoutvoltageis con-
trolled to reduce the quiescent current peak in the
undervoltage region and to improve the transient
responsein thisregion.

of the supplyinputvoltage2.
OUTPUT 2 VOLTAGE
Theoutput2 regulatorusesthe same outputstruc-
tureasthestandbyregulator,butratedforanoutput
currentof 500mA.
The output2 regulatorworks in trackingmode with
the standbyoutputvoltage as a referencevoltage.
The output 2 regulator can be switched off via the
Enableinput.
