Overview
The LC78648E integrates audio CD RF signal processing,
servo control, EFM signal processing, and audio signal
processing on a single chip and can implement a complete
CD player system with only a minimal number of external
components. The RF signal-processing block performs
EFM signal generation, error signal generation, laser
power control, and other functions. The servo control
block applies A/D conversion to the FE, TE, PH, and BH
signals from the RF signal-processing block, and performs
the focus, tracking, sled, and spindle servo control
operations necessary for CD player servo system using
digital processing, and applies D/A conversion to the
calculated actuator control signals to generate the analog
output control signals. The EFM signal-processing block
provides functions for EFM signal demodulation,
synchronization detection, protection, and interpolation,
deinterleaving, and error detection and correction. The
audio signal-processing block either interpolates or mutes
the data according to the error correction status, and
includes 8
× oversampling filter, 1-bit D/A converter, and
second-order low-pass filter (differential amplifier)
circuits. The state and characteristics of each of these
functional blocks can be set from, and the internal data
read out using, the microcontroller interface.
