Software Overview
Each specific application of the TUSB3410 requires its own set of application
code (firmware) running on the internal 8052 uP and also requires a Windows
driver to interface with USB. The firmware and driver can be downloaded from
the TI web site at www.ti.com/rd/tusb3410uart. Scroll down to the CONTENTS
section, click on Drivers & FW, and then follow the instructions to install the
driver and firmware on your system. Note that there are separate executables
for either Win9x systems or Win2k/XP systems. The name of the firmware file
must match the name specified in the driver. If you use the TI provided driver
and FW, this name is umpf3410.i51.
At initial reset, bootcode in internal ROM tries to load firmware and/or descrip-
tor information from an external serial EEPROM. If the EEPROM is not pres-
ent, the bootcode directs the 3410 to connect to the USB host for download
of the application firmware. Once the download is complete, the 3410 recon-
nects to the host to be configured with the new application.
If the EEPROM is present, firmware and/or descriptors from the EEPROM is
loaded into the 8052 RAM code space or descriptor registers. If only the des-
criptors are present, the bootcode connects to the USB for the firmware down-
load as above.
