App Note [1] Biasing - As shown in the bonding diagram, this device requires several different bias voltages to properly operate.
Additionally, in order to avoid any potential damage to the device the voltages should be sequenced in the following order. Start by
applying voltage to the Fine Phase Shifter pad using Vpsh=3.0V. Next apply base voltages to the Vector Modulator and Frequency Divider
devices using Vbb_vmod=(-3.0V) and Vbb_div=(-1.45V) respectively. Next apply I/Q input voltages to the Vector Modulator using
Vi1=Vi2=Vq1=Vq2=(-2.5V). Lastly, apply emitter voltages to the Vector Modulator, Buffer Amplifier and Frequency Divider devices using
Vee_vmod1=Vee_vmod2=(-6.0V) and Vee_buff=Vee_div=(-5.0V) respectively.
App Note [2] Bias Arrangement - Each DC pad needs to have DC bypass capacitance (~100-200 pF) as close to the device as possible.
Additional DC bypass capacitance (~0.01 uF) is also recommended.

Theory of Operation
The 9OSC0315 MMIC is an oscillator designed to provide good phase noise, whilst maintaining a relatively wide frequency tuning range.
The oscillator uses the basic principle of the classic feedback oscillator. Figure 1 is a diagram showing a simple feedback oscillator.
The frequency at which this circuit will oscillate is the frequency for which the total phase shift in the loop, introduced through the
amplifier and transmission lines, is some multiple of 2p. The oscillation at this frequency will be maintained if the magnitude of the loop
gain is >1 (the loop gain is usually made greater than 1 and the amplitude then is limited by saturation of the amplifier).
The frequency(s) at which the circuit in Figure 1 will oscillate is determined by the total phase delay introduced in the amplifier and
feedback path (for frequencies where the loop gain is >1). It is difficult to predetermine the oscillation frequency accurately as knowing the
exact delay in the circuit is not practical, particularly at microwave frequencies. Variations such as delay through the amplifier will vary
between devices, and MMIC bond wires can significantly alter the frequency. Figure 2 shows the same simple feedback oscillator with a
controllable delay in the feedback path.
