Transmit Fault (TX_FAULT)

collectoroutput(pull-uprequiredonthehostboard).A
lowsignalindicatesnormallaseroperationandahigh
signalindicatesafault.Afaultisdefinedaslaserpow-
erbeloworabovethespecifiedIEEE802.3aqmin/max
range.TheTX_FAULTwillbelatchedhighwhenalaser
faultoccursandisclearedbytogglingtheTX_DISABLE
inputorpowercyclingthetransceiver.Thetransmitter
faultconditioncanalsobemonitoredviathetwo-wire
serialinterface(addressA2,byte110,bit2).
Transmitter Section
The transmitter section includes the Transmitter Opti-
calSub-Assembly(TOSA)andlaserdrivercircuitry.The
TOSA,containinganAvagodesignedandmanufactured
1310nmFPlightsource,islocatedattheopticalinter-
faceandmateswiththeLCopticalconnector.TheTOSA
isdrivenbyanICwhichusestheincomingdifferential
highspeedlogicsignaltomodulatethelaserdiodedriv-
ercurrent.ThisTxlaserdrivercircuitregulatestheoptical
power at a constant level provided the incoming data
patternisDCbalanced.
Transmit Disable (TX_DISABLE)
The AFBR-707SDZ accepts an LVTTL compatible trans-
mitdisablecontrolsignalinputwhichshutsdownthe
transmitteropticaloutput.Ahighsignalimplementsthis
functionwhilealowsignalallowsnormaltransceiverop-
eration.Intheeventofafault(e.g.eyesafetycircuitac-
tivated),cyclingthiscontrolsignalresetsthemoduleas
depictedinFigure6.Aninternalpullupresistordisables
thetransceivertransmitteruntilthehostpullstheinput
low.TX_DISABLEcanalsobeassertedviathetwo-wire
interface(addressA2h,byte110,bit6)andmonitored
(addressA2h,byte110,bit7).
ThecontentsofA2h,byte110,bit6arelogicOR’dwith
hardwareTX_DISABLE(contact3)tocontroltransmitter
operation.Thenormalbehaviorofthisfeatureistoreset
aTXdisabledtransceivertoTXenabledwhenitispower
cycledorhot-plugged.
