TheRF25AApplication-SpecificIntegratedCircuit(ASIC) isadual-mode, single-
bandreceiver(Rx) intendedforuseinCodeDivisionMultipleAccess(CDMA)
portablephonesinthecellularband.ItcanbeusedinCDMAmodeorAdvanced
MobilePhoneSystem(AMPS) mode.TheASIC providesexcellentRF
performancewithlowDC powerdissipationandisassembledinalowcost, high
performance, 40-pinLandGridArray(LGA) 6x6mmpackage.
Thedeviceincorporatesallthecomponentsrequiredtoimplementthecomplete
dual-modereceiverfrontend;fromtheLowNoiseAmplifier(LNA) totheIn-Phase
andQuadrature(I/Q) demodulatorstages, exceptforexternalSAWfilters.TheLNA
amplifiestheincomngsignalandoutputstoanexternalSAWfilter.Afterfiltering,
thesignalgoestothemxerfordownconversion.ThemxeroutputfortheAMPS
modeissingle-ended, followedbytheexternalAMPS IntermediateFrequency(IF)
SurfaceAcousticWave(SAW) filter.ThemxeroutputfortheCDMAmodemxer
hasbalancedoutputsforexternalIF SAWfiltering.TheIF SAWfiltersarefollowed
byaVariableGainAmplifier(VGA) andandI/Qdemodulator.Themodeselection
iscontrolledbyamodecontrolpin.
TheIF filteroutputsarebufferedattheinputoftheVGA, whichhasadynamc
rangegreaterthan90dB.
Theon-chipVeryHighFrequency(VHF) VoltageControlledOscillators(VCO)
operateswithanexternaltankcircuittoprovidetheLocalOscillator(LO) signalfor
theI/Qdemodulator.
TheGain, NoiseFigure(NF), andthirdorderInputIntercept(IIP3) ofeachstagein
thereceiverchipareoptimzedtomeetthesystemrequirementsforAMPS and
CDMAmodesaccordingtotheTIA/EIA98-Bstandard.Employingsiliconbipolar
technology, theASIC isdesignedforhighperformancewithahighlevelof
integrationandprovidesacost-effectiveRF solutionfordual-modephone
applications
