Overview of the V5 Interface
Interconnection of AN and LE
The AN is interfaced to the LE through E1 links at
2.048 Mb/s using the V5 protocol.
On the subscriber side the AN can support various
types of services such as POTS, ISDN Basic Access
(ISDN-BA), ISDN Primary Rate Access (ISDN-PRA)
and leased lines.
The bearer data originating from the subscriber is
mapped onto the bandwidth available on the E1
links. The V5 specifies the way in which the
bandwidth is mapped from the subscriber onto the
E1 links.
The timeslots on the E1 links are logically partitioned
as following:
Timeslots which carry PSTN and ISDN bearer
channels.
Communication Channels (C-channels) which
carry ISDN D channel information, PSTN
signaling information and control information.
The communication channels of V5.2 contain
much more control information than the V5.1
interface. Timeslots 16, 15 and 31 can be used
as communication channels and the remaining
timeslots on the E1 can be used as bearer
channels
