Section 10 PWM_A Level 1
This section describes the functions of a PWM_A level 1 device driver.
10.1 Overview
The pulse-width modulator (PWM) and its accompanying device driver (PWM_A)
are used on the
MCORE MMC2001. Level 1 service is designed to allow the
programmer to deal with the PWM on a near-register level, but without concern for
exact positions of registers and fields, or detailed sequences of register operations.
Each PWM channel consists of a free-running 10-bit counter monitored by two
comparators connected to the width and period registers. The period register
determines the period of the pulse train. When a match occurs, it resets the
free-running counter and asserts (begins) the pulse on the output pin. The width
register determines the width of the pulses. When a match occurs, it negates the
pulse to the output pin.
The period and width registers are double-buffered; that is, the values written by
the program into these registers are ordinarily strobed into working copies of the
registers at the end of a pulse period, thus providing glitch-free transitions in period
and width. This strobing action can be overridden in favor of immediate loads by
means of a bit in the control register.
The counting rate can be selected from among eight prescaler taps, dividing the
system clock by between four and 65536.

10.2 PWM_A Level 1 Device Driver Functions
The PWM_A level 1 device driver software provides the following functions:
Initializes the PWM
Starts and stops the PWM
Updates the pulse-width parameters
Returns the values of the interrupt request flag, data flag (pin level), and
counter value in the supplied result structure
Returns the state of the interrupt request flag in the PWM control register
(PWMCR)
Get and set PWM registers
