TheCPU32,theinstructionprocessingmoduleofthe68300family,isbasedonthe
industry-standardTS68000coreprocessorwithmanyfeaturesofthe68010and
TS68020aswellasuniquefeaturessuitedforhigh-performancecontrollerapplications.
TheCPU32isdesignedtoprovideasignificantincreaseinperformanceoverexisting
microcontrollerCPUstomeetthedemandforhigherperformancerequirementsforthe
1990s,whilemaintainingsourcecodeandbinarycodecompatibilitywiththe68000
family.
Easeofprogrammingisanimportantconsiderationinusingamicrocontroller.An
instructionformatimplementingaregister-memoryinteractionphilosophypredominates
inthedesign,andalldataresourcesareavailabletoalloperationsrequiringthose
resources.
