Data logging in practice book
A practical guide to using computer
sensors in science teaching. For ages
11-18. Over a hundred pages of
experiements, plus help and advice on
teaching science. Written by Roger
Frost.
DrDAQ Humidity Sensor
This sensor is designed for the cost
effective measurement of relative
humidity. As soon as it is plugged into one
of the external sensor sockets on DrDAQ
(using the supplied 3m sensor extension cable),
readings can be displayed in %RH. The sensor
has a response time of 60 seconds and can operate
over a 0 to 60°C temperature range.
DrDAQ Reed Switch
The reed switch sensor can be used to
detect the presence of a magnetic field
such as from a bar magnet or an
electromagnet. Alternatively, a simple external
switch can be wired to the internal screw
terminals. It can also be used as an alternative to
a lightgate for timing applications. The sensor is
supplied with a 3m sensor extension cable.

DrDAQ Sensor Adaptor
This compact unit that is produced by Lascells
will prove invaluable to anyone developing
their own sensors for the DrDAQ. A short
length of cable is terminated with an FCC 68
4/4 data plug, which is compatible with the
external sensor sockets on the DrDAQ .
The four lines are clearly labelled and brought
out to four 4mm sockets on the adaptor unit
so that external circuitry can be easily
connected and developed.
Pico Technology PC based
data logging equipment
enables
students
measure very fast or very
slow changes with high
precision. Students can view
data graphically in ‘real
time’, which makes the
scientific concepts easier to
visualise. This gives a
greater understanding of
science.
to
The DrDAQ is recommended for two new science courses in the
UK. One of which is the Institute of Physics Advancing Physics
course. The other is the Salters Horners A/AS level physics
course. Pico oscilloscope and data logging products are ideal for
the courses, and many of the pilot schools have used our
oscilloscopes and data loggers, in fact PicoScope is described in
the recommended apparatus list.
