Discovery:
The PoE Module uses two level probe signals (typically 4.4V and 8.8V / four-point measurement) during the
discovery process to determine whether a valid PD is present. When a proper PD resistor signature has
been detected, the HyperJack 1000 PoE module will automatically proceed to classification.
If a proper PD resistor signature is not detected during discovery, the module will signal this by setting the
Discovery Status Bit in the read register and will not connect power. The module will continue to cycle thru
the discovery process.
Classification:
After successful discovery of a valid PD, the module will perform a power classification of the PD based on
the PD’s current signature. The classification current level is measured at a reduced terminal voltage of
17.5V. The classification will categorize PD according to power needs, and the port status register will be
updated with the result of this process. Note that only one port classifies at a time. After classification is
complete, the module will proceed to power the PD.
Powered state:
The module will now apply the 48V to the PD and will begin continuously sampling voltage and current. The
real-time results of the voltage and current will be available in auto mode to an external agent thru the
control interface. The PD will stay in this state until a disconnect or fault event is detected, at which time
power will be removed.
Fault state:
When in the powered state and the module detects a fault condition, it will enter a fault state. In the fault
state, power will be removed from the port and the module will not attemp another discovery for 750ms.
Setting the appropriate bits in the port read registers in the device indicates faults. Once the 750ms has
expired, the module enters the discovery state again
