Architectural Overview
synchronizer issues the control strobes for the convolutional
deinterleaver and the Reed-Solomon decoder functions. The output of
this block provides proper data alignment for the convolutional
deinterleaver and Reed-Solomon decoder.
2.20 Convolutional Deinterleaver
The convolutional deinterleaver rearranges the ordering of a sequence of
symbols in a deterministic manner.
In a (B, N) periodic deinterleaver, the minimum separation at the
deinterleaver output is B (deinterleaving depth) symbols for any two
symbols that are separated by fewer than N symbols at the deinterleaver
input. This means that if the channel inserts any burst of fewer than B
errors single errors occur at the deinterleaver output.
The L6781 deinterleaver features a maximum block length of 204 bytes
and a deinterleaving depth of 12 (B).
2.21 Reed-Solomon Decoder
The Reed-Solomon decoder block performs an eight-bit Reed-Solomon
RS (204, 188, 8) decode. The decoder is a
forward-error correction
(FEC) unit that looks at the check bytes appended to the data stream.
The decoder either corrects any error in the data stream, or, when errors
are detected but not corrected, it asserts the ERROROUTN signal. In a
frame of 204 bytes, the maximum number of error corrections the
decoder performs is 8 bytes.
2.22 Descrambler
The input to the descrambler block is the consecutive sequence of
decoded, yet scrambled, frames output by the Reed-Solomon decoder
after error correction. The main functions of the descrambler block are:
To detect the inverted sync-byte pattern (that occurs at the rst byte
of every eighth transport frame), and facilitate descrambler
synchronization for correct recovery of the transport frame bytes.
