The Viewpoint palette supports a user-programmable horizontal zooming function 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32
x
zoom.
Zooming can be controlled through the auxiliary-control register on the indirect-register map as shown by
the following table.

When one of the horizontal zooms (besides 1x) is chosen, the dot clock is internally divided by the zoom
number specified before it is allowed to clock the internal circuitry. Therefore, all internal circuitry is clocked
at the divided frequency. The one exception to this is the VCLK generator, since the unmodified dot clock
is sent to the VCLK counter circuitry. In this way, all of the video timing relationships are maintained.
The default at RESET is for the horizontal zoom to be 1x; i.e., disabled (ACR7 = ACR6 = ACR5 = logic 0).
The programmed divide ratios for VCLK and RCLK/SCLK in the output-clock-selection register remain
unchanged. Therefore, if horizontal zoom is chosen (other than 1x), SCLK is divided by the zoom number
but VCLK remains unchanged.
If the divisor selected for VCLK in the output-clock-selection register is less than the zoom factor, VCLK
defaults to the original dot frequency divided by the horizontal zoom factor. As an example of the zooming
function, consider the case where dot clock is running at 100 MHz, RCLK/SCLK is programmed for dot/4,
and VCLK is programmed for dot/2. In this case, RCLK/SCLK is running at 25 MHz and VCLK at 50 MHz.
