A.2.5.3 ESD Tolerance and Triggering Voltage
All input and output buffers exhibit ESD breakdown voltages in excess of
2001 V for both pad-to-VDD and pad-to-VSS.
A.2.6
Passive
Resistor Loads
and 5-V
Compatible
Outputs
Passive resistor loads, as either discrete board-level components or
weak pull-up resistors on input stages of other load devices, cause
reverse leakage currents into the VDD supply when outputs are active. No
reverse current is present during 3-state operation. The maximum leak-
age current (negative IOH) for an output high state is
(VDD
5 - V
DD
3)/R
EFF = (5.5 - 3.0)/REFF.
REFF is the effective external passive load of all loads to the 5-V supply
(VDD
5) on the interconnect in question.
A typical 10-K
load results in a maximum reverse leakage current of
0.25 mA. Consider the effects of large numbers of 5-V compatible output
buffers held in a static HIGH state under passive load conditions. If the
L64005 holds a large number of outputs in a static HIGH state and con-
sumes minimal AC power because of reduced or inhibited system clock
operation, the cumulative reverse leakage current can exceed the power
requirements of the entire device from the VDD supply. The IC could then
act as a source of current into the 3.3-V supply.
A.2.6.1 DC Characteristics
Table A.15 shows the DC characteristics of 5-V compatible output buff-
ers. All limits are specied over commercial conditions.
