this whole packet is transmitted. This behavior guarantees a good throughput in an
overload situation.
As depicted in
Figure 3
, if the BufNrtEPD of traffic class i is exceeded by the current fill
level of the total buffer represented by the counters UNRTOC/DNRTOC, then each
arriving packet of this traffic class is discarded by EPD. It doesn’t matter if any other
threshold of traffic class i is violated as the exceeding only one threshold (independent
of which one it is) leads to a cell discarding. Therefore it is possible that cell discarding
will occur even if the 20k of TrafClassMax is not occupied by traffic class i because the
BufNrtEPD is exceeded.
If threshold BufNrtMax of this traffic class i isn’t exceeded by the current fill level of the
total buffer represented by the counters UNRTOC/DNRTOC, then the maximum fill or
PPD threshold (PPDen = ’1’) isn’t triggered.
