Uni-directional Mode with Only one Core
(only Upstream Core can be used)
The choice of ABM core to be used for upstream and downstream direction depends on
the output of the respective scheduler. In the
Figures 21
and
22
(see [
1
], page 92) the
ABM is used in MiniSwitch mode (= uni-directional mode) with both ABM cores to realize
a DSLAM. The ADSL devices #1..#48 are connected in downstream direction with the
scheduler #1..#48 of the upstream ABM core. ADSL devices #49..#95 are connected in
downstream direction with the schedulers #49..#95 of the downstream ABM core. All
ADSL devices are connected in the upstream direction with the scheduler #96 as its
output is connected to the public network. So if an ADSL device #1..#48 has a
connection established in the upstream direction then this VC uses the downstream core
(as the output of scheduler #96 has to be used to reach the public network and scheduler
#96 belongs to the downstream ABM core). In the downstream direction this VC uses
the upstream ABM core as the output of the respective scheduler #1..#48 has to be used
to reach the corresponding ADSL device #1..#48 and the schedulers #1..#48 belong to
the upstream ABM core.
