With the output load approaching 100% the required buffer space increases strongly.
The output load is identical to the usage of the capacity by this group of queues.
Hence a trade-off must be made between required buffer space and line usage. If a
finite amount of buffer space is given, the usage can only be increased by accepting
higher cell losses. If e.g. 100 packets buffer space is available the output load can be
increased from 88% to 96.5% by accepting a cell loss probability of 10
-3

When applying this statistical dimensioning method some issues have to be considered:
In reality there will be packets of different lengths. To be on the safe side the maximum
packet length could be taken for the calculation.
The calculation is valid for statistical, independent Bernoulli-type traffic. In case of
correlated traffic and/or traffic which has a different statistical behavior the required
buffer space could be significantly higher.
