classes CBR.1, VBR.1 (real time), two different VBR.2 classes (non-real time) and UBR
are supported. For all classes the required buffer sizes are determined using the curves
in Figure
13
. For CBR.1, VBR.1 and UBR classes where a single queue is used for all
connections the result is the queue size, for the VBR.2 classes with per-VC queuing the
result is the size of the buffer shared by the queues of this traffic class.
CBR.1 connections use the real time bypass with high priority. For cells leaving the
bypass queue it looks like the whole scheduler bandwidth R were available. Hence the
load for this queue is the sum of all peak cell rates related to maximum serving rate R.

The cell arrival process of CBR.1 cells which have crossed one or more switches is well
described by Bernoulli statistics. Hence for CBR.1 the curves of Figure
13
can be applied
in these cases, with the vertical axis giving the queue length in cells. Here a further
simplification is possible by providing buffer for up to e.g. 95% load (256 cells).
For the traffic classes connected to the WFQ multiplexer the statistical calculation can
be applied independently, as the WFQ multiplexer guarantees a serving rate of at least
the sum of the guaranteed rates of the queues involved.
