In a worst case situation the queue could be completely empty, but no cell for this queue
is accepted due to shared buffer overflows. Note that such a situation should be avoided
by assigning appropriate queue thresholds for the traffic class.
Each threshold represents a combination of the 3 following aspects:
a) a threshold is compared with a certain current fill level represented by a counter;
used fill levels are:
cells of total buffer, cells of a traffic class, cells of a scheduler, cells of a queue
b) each threshold represents the maximum allowed number of buffered cells of a
specific
area
