Independent of using one or both ABM cores, the LSB of the LCI’s and QID’s of an ABR
connection have to be inverted (= toggle LSB) e.g. in forward direction LCI=3 and
UpQID=7, in backward direction LCI=2 and DnQID=6.
ABR CI/NI marking occurs analogous to bi-directional mode in
Figure 5
.

The differences are based on the usage of the ABM cores due to the respective ABM
mode and the assignment of the LCIs from a connection to the available cores.
Table 8
shows the register flags concerned with regard to bi- and uni-directional ABM mode.
In bi-directional mode the LCI revaluation from LCI
1
to LCI
2
and vice versa of a
connection occurs in the upstream direction of the respective ASP. In uni-directional
mode there is no ATM switching network which consists of ASPs and ASMs. Hence the
LCI revaluation is performed by LCI toggle within the ABM (see [
1
], page 19).
