denotes that the respective element is served with
a limited rate. In the real configuration the multiplexor is served with a certain rate,
which is typically the scheduler rate minus the real time traffic rate. In the
equivalent diagram the multiplexor is served with unlimited rate, but the output
queue is rate limited.
The calculated output buffer (=shared buffer) values depending on the load of the output
and with the packet loss probability as parameter are shown in Figure
13
. These curves
exhibit some interesting facts:
The number of connections/ queues (n) does not appear as parameter. In the
calculation the transition n
→∞
has been made. This allows to reserve buffer space in
advance without having to readjust it at each connection setup or cleardown.
