If the L64007 is used in a network producing much jitter in the PCR pack-
ets, the clock recovery system might not lock correctly unless a proper
digital lter is applied to the FErr to remove the jitter noise.
Jitter noise occurs when many spikes are detected in the FErr value. It
occurs when values extracted for PCR and LMC are suddenly far apart.
To smooth the jitter in the arrival of the data, use the extended channel
buffer mode. This mode allows the L64007 to temporarily store PES
audio and video streams in the external DRAM until the L64007 fetches
this data into its 512-byte transport buffer. If the buffer size in the external
DRAM is large enough to accommodate the worst-case jitter, a smooth
audio and video output is guaranteed; this prevents the overow or
underow condition in the A/V decoder device.
Time-base jitter is handled differently than data jitter, because it is not
practical to store the channel data in an external smooth buffer and then
read the data back in at the transport rate. The preferred scheme is to
